Stone Canyon Home

SQUARE FOOTAGE: 7670
BEDROOMS: 5
BATHROOMS: 9
The Stone Canyon home project was a spec home designed for a client who wanted a residence that impressed. Stone Canyon is in Holmby Hills a prestigious neighborhood on the West side of Los Angeles.
The home is comprised of 5 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms, with a library, den, spa, swimming pool, private dining room, and separate servant’s quarters in the lower floor level.
It features a two story foyer and hall leading to the back yard crowned by a skylight. A winding stairway centers the house and leads to a bridge above, where resides the private living quarters.
One of several things that make the architecture sing is that there is a fountain outside the front door and a swimming pool in the back with a fountain behind it. The two story hall with skylight is in straight alignment from front to back of the residence, an axis with a line of site from one side of the structure to the other making a visual link between the water features. Creating elegant and stimulating affects.
While modern, the Palladian entry assemblage of columns and arched roof, and the leaded glass entry door bring in a historical context. The rear façade has both symmetry and asymmetry including the reverse bow shaped wall of the living room and a serpentine wall at the back of the master bedroom with a balcony. The front façade is symmetrical another nod to Palladian design) with a grand stairway up to the entrance.
There are two Romeo and Juliet balconies in the interior, one over the foyer and the other over the living room. There is also one of Olson’s signature spy windows from the ladies closet above the living room. That would allow her to eves drop on guests when not in the room.
The main public level has grand 10 foot ceilings stately fireplaces with custom cabinetry.
